In February 1834 Ballingham had the dubious distinction of claiming a rabid dog – the dog, belonging to William Greenaway, bit his wife and two children then died in three days exhibiting every sign of rabies.  It was reported that ”  The sufferers have prudently  resorted to the excision of the parts.”

As for Bolstone, this village is even tinier than Ballingham!  It once was the property of the Knights Hospitallers.
