1909 – Suicide at Leysters

George Henry Reynolds was a 19 year old labourer living at Leysters and in the employ of farmer Robert Mercer.

George came from Liverpool, and had been a bad lad and was in a reformatory school before going to work for the farmer, but  he was unhappy about having to fund his brother who was still in the reformatory;  those who knew him thought that he was a “strange tempered” chap.

One day George was found with a gunshot would, which initially appeared to be the result of an accident, but just before he died he confessed to the doctor treating him that it was an intentional act.

At the inquest the jury returned a verdict of suicide whilst of unsound mind
