A tiny village just over six miles west of Hereford, and close to the River Wye.

Bishopstone translates as Bishop’s estate.

In 1812 when the foundations of the rectory were being excavated, the site of a Roman Villa was discovered, and a beautiful mosaic pavement was found just beneath the surface with the colours still vibrant – unfortunately, nobody thought to preserve it and it has now been lost.  Many other Roman artefacts were found as well as some sandstone foundations.
