Kingsland is deep in Mortimer country – the family who ruled this part of Herefordshire throughout the Middle Ages. Just outside the village is Mortimer’s Cross where in 1461 a battle was fought between the Lancastrians and the Yorkists which resulted in Edward lV being instated on the throne of England. Kingsland is close to the river Lugg, with a long village street.
